looks like we made it

i thought that i would thoroughly enjoy a full day of doing absolutely nothing after 7 weeks of going flat out like a maniac...but i'm bored and a little ill. after class i took a nap or something that resembled a nap but was actually a stream of really weird dreams interrupted by the elephant that lives above me. you know how you really look forward to naps and then you take one and you feel even worse when you wake up than before you went to sleep? well, that was how it ended. it was disappointing. i've been looking forward to this exact nap for 7 weeks, and it wasn't satisfying at all. don't you hate that?? it took me about an hour to feel like i wasn't swimming through glue anymore, and i finally ventured out to get some samples at the house of the designer i'm interning for starting in august (check out her website here). fabric and carpet and paint chips, oh my! i detoured to target on the way home and managed to buy nothing but my prescriptions (a real feat, believe me), got a FREE frappuccino at starbucks because the lady said she'd already closed her till (even though i'm sure at least two other people had tills open, but who am i to question free starbucks??), and made it home before the beltline became a parking lot. by 7pm, i was relatively bored and extremely hungry, but a very large very loud very lighting-y storm came through and kept me inside for another 45 minutes or so. i finally got some chick-fil-a for the second time in two days and am now plopped back in front of the tv wishing that these high schoolers that live in and around my building were gone for good.

what's up for the rest of the summer, you may ask...well, first a day of cleaning and organizing the apartment because it's grimy and messy. and then...for the next four weeks i will be working out two to three hours a day, learning about nutrition, taking cooking classes, talking about emotional eating, and getting my butt whooped by the friendly folks at the duke diet & fitness center. i made the life-changing decision to try this out way back in february, and the time to start is finally here. for 7 weeks i've been thinking "summer school summer school summer school," and now i suddenly have to switch gears and think "healthy healthy healthy." it's going to be a HUGE change, one that i'm really hoping i can stick with after i'm done with the program. i'm worried that classes, work, and an internship will prove to be too much to handle, and i'll end up going back to the bad habits that have gotten me into the shape i'm in now (which is lumpy and bad!). i plan on blogging every day - the good and the bad - so maybe you all can help keep me accountable and encourage me, too! i do have to lose a significant amount of weight (not like 'the biggest loser' amount, but still quite a bit), although i found out yesterday at the doctor's office that somehow i've lost 7.5 pounds since october. i really have no idea how since i eat fast food at least 3 times a week and sit in my oversized green chair or at the drafting table for hours and hours at a time. the only exercise i currently get involves walking from my apartment to class, my car, or the mailbox. seriously. i'm not even exaggerating. yet i managed to lose 7.5 pounds since october?? i have a feeling that isn't the kind of diet the DFC approves of...i'll find out for sure and let you know. :)

so stay tuned for updates on this scary but exciting journey! when i'm brave enough, i'll even post photos. i plan on taking them throughout the process, but i lack the self-confidence to post them just yet (even though pretty much everyone who reads this already knows what i look like). happy weekend, everyone! and emily - congrats on being done with summer school, too!
