things are getting back to "normal," whatever that is. when classes started, i realized that i didn't have the right prerequisite for one class (i don't know how i missed that), so i dropped it to take the prerequisite. then i decided to drop my studio art class to take a much easier, less time- and labor-intensive lecture about lighting. yes, we really do study lighting for an entire semester. so even though my schedule went through some changes, i think they were all for the better and i will be a much happier person this semester.
last night i met with the lady i'm doing my internship with, and i came away from it so excited about all the cool things i get to do. she already handed a project over to me and said, "here, see what you can come up with." and the lady who owns the condo loves the pottery barn look. could it BE anymore perfect for me?? i have until the end of next week to put together some things, but i'd like to get it done sooner if possible. she's got some major projects in the works, including a new cafe for one of the oldest organic grocers in raleigh (so cool!) and an 8,000 square foot home in cary that is actually going to be a green home. whoa. this is, like, REAL work. it's not little projects for a grade...people are actually going to judge my work and hopefully live with it in their houses for a long time. i will get to see things go from paper to reality. i hope i don't mess up!
tonight i saw "an inconvenient truth," and i was happily surprised. i went into it thinking it would be very "farenheit 9-11"-esque...you know, very obviously slanted to the left, dripping with sarcasm, condescending, etc...but i found it to be thoughtful, thought-provoking, and eye-opening. granted, there were some obvious jabs at president bush (both the 1st and the 2nd), but they weren't quite as snide and juvenile as michael moore's were. i've resisted seeing the movie until now because i thought it would be too depressing, but it actually gave me some hope that we might just be able to reverse global warming. i guess i got a case of the warm fuzzies, which i definitely was not expecting.
i'm also getting over a relatively crappy cold. i am a big baby when it comes to being sick, but this cold really did wipe me out. i've spent the last two days comatose on my couch, and i missed my classes tuesday and wednesday. sleeping has been a challenge, too. i feel better today, but i still have man-voice. it's pretty.
now i'm going to watch andy roddick try to fight his way back into this tennis match (p.s. - the tennis fans in new york are a far cry from the prim and proper wimbeldonians) and then mentally prepare for what may or may not be a hurricane that may or may not hit this part of the state. get yer flashlights ready, people!
