on saturday night, i was flipping through the channels as bored as ever when i stumbled upon saturday night live just as tina fey, queen latifah, and another guy who is part of the cast but whose name i do not know were starting their fabulous recreation of the vice presidential debate. i can't remember the last time that something on SNL (or tv, for that matter) made me laugh so hard that i was actually crying. anyone passing my apartment would surely have thought that i was having convulsions of some kind. tina fey is a genius, and queen latifah was perfect as the moderator. here's part of it on youtube. the short clip doesn't do it justice, though...there was some much funnier material, like when the moderator asked sarah palin if she had any closing comments and tina fey said something like "for all you joe six-packs out there playing a drinking game at home...MAVERICK." and then she acted like she was popping open a nice cold beer and taking a big ol' sip from it. i can't do it justice, either...you just have to see it.
finally, after two years of campaigning and mud-slinging, we get some actual funny material a mere 30 days before the election. i'm so happy mccain picked sarah palin, if only for the few moments of hilarity we get from these skits.
(if you have 11 minutes to spare, here is the full sketch from nbc.com)
