another good day

it is so nice to be able to say that i had ANOTHER good day! what a drastic difference from a few weeks ago. believe me, i am grateful.

i started the day by going to see a presentation by the Lost Boys of Sudan here on campus. needless to say, it was extremely moving and a huge eye-opener. the two men, joseph and samuel, were so appreciative of everything they have here in america. they love this country, they love getting an education, and they loved the fact that in america we have colleges just for women. they said that in sudan, educated women were considered dangerous and were usually killed. wow...imagine being in danger because of your knowledge.

this afternoon i had lunch with sue anne at parker & otis (also known as PandO) in durham. it was delightful! i had a scrumptious bacon, turkey, & avocado sandwich as well as a very chocolatey cupcake with the best icing i've ever had. we split the cupcake, so i don't feel too guilty about it. i capped it all off with my favorite iced chai latte which i savored all the way home. even though it was raining and dreary, i was feeling pretty great!

and finally tonight, sarah invited me to the carolina hurricanes game. she had scored some tickets that the college was giving away, so we went for the first 2 periods but both needed to be back before too late. i didn't eat a single thing there, which might be a first for a sporting event. and this means i didn't spend a dime on my night out. awesome!

i have also discovered (after a year and a half) that eating in the dining hall is an excellent way to save money. not only am i saving the money that i would be spending on food, but i'm also saving the other money i would usually spend when i would get distracted and go into other stores. although it's not the greatest food, it is the cheapest. and saving money is paramount right now.

and now it's off to see my lovely RAs, and then my day will be done. on to the next!
