no, that's not a typo in the title. i have convinced myself that i need to learn how to sew. think of all the things i could make: curtains! pillowcases! er...other things i just can't think of right now because i'm distracted by the tv!
my mom was always sewing when i was growing up. i distinctly remember coming home from school one afternoon when i was somewhere around 3rd or 4th grade. the kitchen door was open, so i could see my mom through the screen door as she sewed away at the kitchen table. she was so excited to show me what she had made - tiny clothes for my cabbage patch kids. at the time, i didn't appreciate the fact that my mom was putting all of that time and energy - and LOVE - into something just for me. i could only think about the fact that all of my friends has store-bought brand name clothes for their CPK's which were, of course, much cooler in my 9-year-old opinion. now, however, i feel so blessed to have a mom who was so eager to make something for me. we've kept very few of my toys, but i still have most of the clothes she made, as well as just one of my cabbage patch kids (joanna olympia - they had such weird names!).
my mom has taught my 9-year-old niece how to sew, and grace loves making clothes with my mom. grace even had a sewing party for her 8th birthday when she and three of her friends spent the night at my parents' house and sewed little outfits for themselves. until grace took an interest in sewing, i really didn't think about it. but then i saw how proud my mom was to teach grace and pass along her knowledge. so now i'd like to learn - not just to learn, but also to share something special with my mom.
plus, i'd like some really cool pillows for my eames chairs, but i just can't find any that i like in the stores. :)

GO TO THE BERNINA STORE! They have the most fantastic selection of fabrics. Lots of fun, modern-y patterns. Good colors, just super duper fun. I would even be completely willing to take a birthday bernina trip with you next next week. :-)
My CPK's name was Tina Patricia. She had yellow yarn hair...and sadly, no homemade outfits. My mom did help me sew (more like she sewed) a really fantastic comforter and pillow case for my American Girl doll bed.
I wish I could sew...it's been on my list of things to learn to do for at least 6 years now.
