check me out - i'm a weekend warrior!

i'm pretty excited about my weekend project. i went to the flea market saturday morning (yes, morning!) in search of a chair and a nighstand for my room at my parents' house.

wait, let me back up. until about 4 weeks ago, my room at home looked pretty much like it did the day i left for ncssm in 1993. i think the bedspreads have changed, but seriously, that's about it. my oldest sister and i have been BEGGING my mom to do something to bring the room into the 21st century, and she finally relented. i went home the weekend of my birthday with a car full of picture frames, vases, knick-knacks, and odds n' ends, and i gave my room a little facelift. after resisting for sooooooo long, my mom LOVED it. she said she didn't want to go to sleep that night because she just wanted to look at everything - the ultimate compliment!

the only things i wasn't able to update were a nightstand and a desk chair, hence the trip to the flea market. while i didn't find a nighstand (which is really the more necessary but that's ok), i did find this cutie:

please note the red velvet upholstery which, according to the lady, was "professionally done." it was a nice upholstery job, but the fabric choice was questionable. the chair has some great details, though:

cute, right? the caning is in great shape, and i got it for a steal. i just thought it needed a little...umph. so i made a trip to home depot for some spray paint and joann's for some fabric. i spent a few hours this afternoon sanding, priming, painting, and reupholstering, and...

TA-DA! here's a close-up of the fabric:

i couldn't get the best pictures because the light was fading, but i think you get the gist. what do you think?? me gusta mucho! just hope my mom likes them.
