daylight savings time

people, i think it's time we reconsider daylight savings time. is it really necessary in this day and age? after a quick glance through the wikipedia entry for DST (and we all know how accurate wiki is), it appears that DST has gone through many revisions, repeals, vetoes, and re-adoptions. we can thank the avid golfers who didn't want to quit in the middle of a good round when the light waned, the people who thought DST would conserve energy, and the wall street guys who wanted to have an overlapping hour or two of trading time with the europeans for keeping DST alive. interestingly, the agriculture industry has typically opposed it. i always found it confusing since my family lived in holland - sometimes they were 6 hours ahead, sometimes only 5 because they sprang forward later and fell backwards earlier. even today, not all of the US observes DST, and many countries don't either. some countries never did.
all i know is, i love to fall backwards in the fall, but i looooooathe springing forward. my two little nieces didn't care for it much this morning, either. both of them could have used that extra hour of sleep this morning - they were quite grumpy. and frankly, so was i.

down with DST!
(i bet this kid thinks DST is unnecessary, too.)
